Until 9 a.m. of Wednesday, 29 people were confirmed dead after a fire broke out at a hospital in Beijing’s Fengtai district on Tuesday, according to a press briefing on Wednesday.
Firefighters received a report of a fire in an inpatient ward building at Beijing Changfeng Hospital at 12:57 p.m. The fire was extinguished at 1:33 p.m., with 71 patients evacuated.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident.
Twelve people, including the head of the hospital, have been taken into custody after the fire that left 29 dead, according to the press briefing.
